Moving to Dorset and the South West of England?

If you’re thinking of moving to Dorset, then you have made a great choice of county!

When my family moved back to the UK after years of living in Asia, we were in a fortunate position to be able to choose literally anywhere to live in the United Kingdom. We travelled around for 3 months with our children, exploring the country, from Norfolk, to York, Scotland, The Lake District, Wales and the Home Counties. It was a wonderful trip and at the end, we decided that the Dorset was the county we wanted to settle down in.

Why we chose Dorset

It ended up being a fairly easy choice, I have to be honest. First of all Dorset is so easily reached by many of our family and friends. With great transport links, it’s so easy to nip up to London, not too far even to Cornwall and we even have a couple of airports – Southampton, Exeter and of course Bournemouth for hassle free European get-aways.

Secondly, we have the best of coast, city and country life. The beaches along the Jurassic Coast are stunning and we have soft sandy beaches in Poole and Bournemouth as well. Sailing is a major pursuit down our way, which was a big draw for us as a family. Whilst not large cities, Bournemouth has some excellent bars and restaurants, theatres and the shopping isn’t too shabby… Although for better shopping and West End shows we venture to Southampton. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with a huge number of National Trust properties and parks to explore.

Finally, we have a huge choice of schools near us, giving us the confidence that our children will be well taken care of.

Are you moving to Dorset or the South West?

Off the back of Covid-19, it seems that many Londoners (and indeed, other city dwellers) are now reconsidering where they live and are looking at Dorset as a possible contender. If you decide to relocate to Dorset or the surrounding counties (Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, or Surrey), give me a call when it comes to planning the curtains and soft furnishings for your new home. Did you know I also do curtain alterations? So if you’re bringing your existing curtains with you, I can alter them to fit your new windows.
